Academia in America and other countries is giveing increased attention to popular culture the everyday life of ordinary people. This involves work in history as well as related fields like sociology and political science. There is an increasing recognotion of an important HBC thesis that important social, political, and economic trends are often reflected in popular culture, especially fashion. Fashion an clothing is of course one aspect of popular culure, often one of the most visible aspects. HBC will maintain a list of interesting academic conferences for readers interested in participating. Readers are incouraged to submit information on pertinent academic conferences.

Youth, Popular Culture and Everyday Life Conference (February 2002)

The organizers invite all interested scholars to attend the "Youth, Popular Culture and Everyday Life Conference", February 8-10, 2002, at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, USA. The Conference schedule of events, which includes a gallery reception for a national juried art exhibition, a documentary film showing, featured speaker Carol Siegel, keynote speaker Janice Radway, and approximately 45 paper presentations can be found on their website.
