Formal weddings in the early part of the 20th Century used a wide variety of costumes for the boys who participated as ring bearers or pages and ushers. One of the boys here is Randolph Churchill which helps us date the image to about 1915. The two page boys here are participating at a society wedding in London. Interestingly to his his right, out of view is his sister, who curiously enough is identically outfitted. A reade writes, "I have seen the full photgraph in a book dipicting the life of the Churchills in photos. I think he was a page at his Uncle's wedding Lord Randolph Churchill. It must be 20 years since I have seen the book, but the image for ome reason stuck in my mind. I'll see whether I can find the full image and send it along to HBC. The curious thing about the full photo was the outfit of the girl, being identical to the boys." HBC suspects that some other little girl was selected to be the flower girl, but they wanted her to have an important role in the wedding.
