We receive numerous requests from students and parents helping their children with a wide range of school projects. Often this involves use of HBC to look up a very specific topic for a short period. Sometimes mothers need to see the images to make costumes. We like to assist with educational projects.
HBC offers a limited 1-month access to HBC for only $10. This will allow time to research a school assignment or to look at large numbers of historical images from around the world to help prepare a costume. We would like to offer free access here, but the costs of operating a website just do not make this possible.
Checks: Your check should be made out to "Apertures Press". (We accept checks in American dollars, British pounds, Euros, and New Zealand dollars.)
Credit cards: You can also use your credit card to contribute to HBC. Just click on the Paypal icon here. We suggest that you also send us an e-mail to ensure that your transaction has been processed properly.
We invite students who sign up for student access to contrinute their papers for posting on HBC. We can not guarantee we can use your paper, but if it is well done we probably can. Here our interest is two fold. First it helps us expand our historical coverage. Second it provides interesting insites on how ypoung people view fashion and historical issues.
If this is of interest to you, you will first need to get your parents or guardian's permission. You then can sunbit your paper in electroic format to HBC by E-Mail. Please run a spell check before doing so. If you are submitting a paper in a language other than English, it would be helpful to include an English translation--although this is not required. Please include your name and grade level.
We will post your paper with your name and grade level as the author. Optionally you can add the name of your school. For security reasons, if you are a primary or secondary student we are only able to use your first name. We will be pleased, however, when you reach your 18th birthday to add your last name. We will post your full name if you are a university student.
HBC is an independent internet history site. We have no goverment or private funding. Thus we can not offer a stipend for these papers. There are, however, several advantages to you for submitting papers to HBC. 1) It is recognition that you have procuded a quality report. 2) It will archive your paper in a public forum. Almost all student papers are read and graded by the teacher and then discarded. Thibk how itresting it woyld be to read papers written by students in different countries and historical eras. 3) We will turn your 1-month student access into a full 1-year subscription. 4) Posting on our HBC website is in fact publication. Thus you will be able to add to your resume that you have actually published a research paper. 5) Readers may comment on your work which you may find interesting. 6) HBC may have images in its archive to illustrate your paper.
