Sea Scout Uniforms: Estonia

Figure 1.--This is a photograph Maritime Days in Tallinn (June 5-6, 1937). It was labeled as Marine Scouts. The youth look a little old to be Scouts, but in the early years of Scouting, older boys and youth plaued a more imprtant role than is generally the case today.

We know little about Estonian Scouting at this time. Scouting began in Estonia (1912) before World War I. The movement was active during independence (1918-40), but we have few details. We do know that there was a Sea Scout section, but the only information we have at this time is a single photograph. The photograph here shows Estojian Sea Scouts (figure 1). It was taken during Maritime Days in Tallinn (June 5-6, 1937). It was labeled as Marine Scouts. The youth look a little old to be Scouts, but in the early years of Scouting, older boys and youth plaued a more imprtant role than is generally the case today.
