Japanese Choirs: Big Mamouth Choir

Figure 1.--.

I have relatively little information about the Big Mamouth Choir. It appears to have been a much more informally costumed choir than many Japanese choirs. Its performances, however, were often quite professionally staged.

The Choir

The Big Mamnoth boys chorus was established by Fuji TV (Japan's popular commercial boroadccasting station) in 1970's, but dissolved in the 1980's. I do not know why it was resolved.

Uniforms

Available images from the 1980s show the boys with relatively long hair. They wear sorts gear style uniforms with shirts have large numbers like athletes. One outfit is a white sport shirt worn with yellow short pants, tube socks with a top stripe, and black sneakers. Another appears to be blue sweat shirts worn over white shirts with collars. This is worn with white shorts, short white atletic socks with top stripes, and white sneakers. I do not know if they also had a formal uniform.

Figure 21.--This 1980 photo graph shows the Big Mamouth choir wearing football style shits with yellow short pants and kneesocks.

Based on the photographs, this choir's peformances were more profesionally than many Japanese choirs.
