My parents always insisted that I dress up for special occassions. As a younger boy I didn't take much notice. As an older boy I began to object to some of the outfits moyher chose for me.
One example of a special occassion outfit here was September 1994 (figure 1). The occassion was the 80th birthday of my grandmother. My grandma as I supose is common for older people was even more conservative than my parents. In addition I was her little cute and only grandson who was still a boy. My brother is more than 7 years older than me. When this picture was made in 1994, he was 21 years old.. Because of this and because my parents said I should made grandma happy, I wore this outfit of white polo shirt, grey shorts, white (open-weave) kneesocks and black leather low-cut shoes. I didn`t like this outfit, especially at family celebrations, because for everyone I was the little cute boy. I was now 12 years old and thought this outfit was more suitable for a younger boy.
These images from winter 1996 showing me as an 14 year old teenager, wearing my typical outfit for special occasions in the Autumn or winter months. I wore a navy-blue suit with an white shirt and a matching striped tie. Over the shirt, I wore a light-blue sleeveless sweater (this kind of sweater has in Germany the misleading name Pullunder) matching the color of the square patternd socks, besides black patent-leather shoes. As a 14 year old boy I began didn`t feel unpleasant, wearing a suit. Suit were not longer commonly worn, bit iit was better than wearing short pants and kneesocks.
