New Zealand Schools E-Books: Frequently Asked Questions

Figure 1.--Where ever you see an unfilled dark blue box like this, it means that an image will eventually be uploaded to illustrate the page.

The concept of an E-Book is still fairly new. Many of you have asked questions about the book and how it is set up. Check here for some of the most frequantly asked questions as your question may have already been asked and answered. There is also some information about out future plans for the book.

Unloaded Images

What about all the unloaded images?

Remember, our E-Book is a work in progress. It is not yet finished. It is very much a work in progress. We thought you might like to see the book as it develops. Many of you in 1999 inquired about progress on the book. So we thought you might like to have a look as we work on it. Where ever an image box is placed means that we plan to put a new image. The book now has over 300 pages and images. We had initially planned for only about 200 pages. Even so we still plan to add more pages and images.

New Pages

How can I find new pages?

It is a bit difficult as our New Zealand E-book is quite large and growing. Subscribers, however, are entitled to a complimentary notification service. We will automatically alert you when new pages are added or major additions are made to existing pages. Just let us know by e-mail that you are interested in this service. We won't bother you with every page with a new poem or image added, but we will alert you to major changes.

Future Editions

Will there be any future editions?

Yes there will be. As we have now exceeded the initial goal of 200 pages for the first volume of our New Zealand Schools E-Book. We still have not, however, loaded all the planned images.

Not only will there be additional editions on New Zealand schools, but we plan to put out future eBooks on Australian, English, and Scottish schools. We hope that other interested photographers and teachers might want to create similar eBooks depicting schools in their countries. Interested parties should contact Apertures Press to discuss this.

Our current schedule is as follows. Remember this does not mean that the final book will be available on these dates, but you will be able to access the new E-book on these dates. This is a demanding schedule. I am not sure we can keep to it, but this is our current plans.
2003: British Preparatory Schools, Vol. I
2005: British Preparatory Schools, Vol. II
2006: New Zealand Schools, Vol, II--This volume will focus on school uniforms in New Zealand.
2007: New Zealand Schools, Vol. III--The photograph essay section will be made a separate volume. (As we mentioned the original goal was to create an eBook of about 200 pages.) As an early subscriber you are able to view the photographic section now. We will soon, however, beginning loading new images as as a separate volume.
2008: A new eBook on Scottish schools will be opened.
2009: A new eBook on English boarding schools will be opened.

Please let us know about these new titles. Do they sound interesting to you? Do you have any suggestions about possible future editions that you would find interesting.

Written Pieces

The children's poems are rather interesting, but why do you include all the dry little pieces about school rules and procedures?

Indeed. We find the children's poems and other written pieces rather charming. They are designed to reflect what the children in the photographs are actually thinking about their school experience. But of course that is only part of the school experience. The idea of our book is to provide a realistic view of the school experience. Thus the little notes aboyt library fines, bike regulations, locker rules, and the multitude of other school regulatioins provide a much needed input to fully appreciate the school experience.
