British Preparatory Schools E-Book: Chronologies--The 1950s


Figure 1.--We note one all boys prep school in the early 1950s that acquired a fire engine. Two brothers served as the joint headmastrs at the school. Apparently the school use the fire truck for educational purposes. Or perhaps one of them wanted to be a fireman. The boys of course loved the fire engine. The school has since closed. 

Children may not verbalize it, but they in fact like stability in their lives. They also, however, often charmed by a little quirkeyness in their teachers. One element in prep schools that often was absent in more staid state schools. Many prep school boys recall some quirky aspects of their headmaster or masters at the school.
