Today another misguided doctrine has affected American and actually wider Western history--Wokism. This has come about because conservatives has been largely excluded from university history and other social science departments. And the liberals who dominated these departments have gradually metamorphosed in to Socialists (Marxists) of various shades. Now here we are talking about the Civil War, but this affected how all history, economics, and other social sciences are being taught. And its leads to absurdities which actually endanger the lives of conservatives like Charlie Kirk who dare to point this out. For example capitalism is under attack in our great universities. But in this case capitalism and the industry it generated which dominated the Northern economies, is the primary reason that the North won the Civil War. In the wider context, the only prosperous countries in our world are countries with core capitalist economies. Notice that the great migration of our modern era are from countries without capitalist economies to countries with capitalist economies. Here we will discuss some of yhe misguidd ideas that wokist historians have introfuced into the discussion of the Civil War.
It is all together justified that there should be a national holiday in the United States commemorating the end of slavery. In fact it should be one of our most important national clebrations. It was a historical accomplisdhment of monumental importance. We are not sure that Juneteenh is the best date to be honored. This is becuse Woke historians and journalists turn it from a historical elenttion into a critical attack -- What took so long? Of course the answeer is simple--it took 2 bloody, hard fought years to win the Civil War. One joiurnalist exolains why. But watch how Juneteeth is being celebrated. Is it a glorious day of national celebration or a day dishonoring the nation for ever permitting slavery?
We have noted Wokist professors criticize of all things the Emanmcipation proclamtion. The ey object to the beaurecratic language and most importantly its limited nature. It only freed skaves in areas under Confederate comtrol. Most imprtantly it did not free slaves in the border states. All of this was true, but thee is a complete lack of historical understanding. Lincoln knew more than anyone that his authority to free the slaves would be quesioned and the Democratioc-dominated Supreme Court woild ievitably rule. Thus it was couvched as a war neasure, an srea when he Presidential authority was cleaest. And Lincoln was involved in a great Civil War, the outcome of whIch was not at all clear. At the time, it was absolutely vital to keep the Border States in the Union. Lincoln did what he coulddesar at the time. And imprtantly once the first step was taken, the rest would inevitably follow as long as the North won the War.
Woke hisorians cvlim tast the Comstiyution was a pro-slavery document. In fct the woird slavery does not appear in the Constitution. Nor dioes the Constitution auhorize slvery. The Constitution established a Federal system. And set out the principal that any authority not specifically given to he Federal Government falls to the states. This states had the ability to aiuthorize slavery or to become a free state. The Constitution did not authorize the Federal Government to create or abolish slavery. And protectioins for private property limited Federal auhoity to interfere. Critics also point to the three-fiths rule as racist. ctually it was a very important proivision LIMOTING tyhe power of tyhe slve states. In addition the lck of a Federal mpolice force made it difficult for slve ownerss to tack down runaways. It could be done, but was time-comsuming and expensice.
It is important to assess what is going on in other counytries. All too often woke professos compare America against utopia. Of course no country is going to hold up against such comparisons. Any valid comparison had to be made with actual other countries. America was the country where the abolition of slavery. Some states, like Massachusetts and New Hampshire, were effectively free from the start of the Revolution (1776). Vermont banned slavery (1777), before becoming a state (1791). Pennsylvania passed the first gradual abolition law (1780), freeing children born to enslaved mothers after that date after a set number of years of service. Other northern states followed with gradual emancipation laws, setting freedom ages (e.g., Connecticut at 25, New York at 25–28 depending on gender). Cngress passed the Northwest Ordinance (1787). This created Northwest Territory, which included the lands that would become Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and part of Minnesota. A key provision of the Ordinance was that slavery could not be introduced into the Northwest Territory. These states all entered the Union as free states. New Jersey was the last northern state to abolish slavery (1804). Britain and America both banned the slave trade (1807). After the Napoleonic Wars, the Royal Navy began a long term effort to end the Aftican Slave Trade. The U.S. Navy participated in a small way. Other maritime European counties were not vbery copperative, but by mid-century slvers were largely stopped in the Atlantic. More difficult was ending slavery in the Islamuc world. Yje Rotal Navy launced b Indian Ocean cmpoign (1840s). The United States was different than much of Europe. Countries in Europe did not have substantial black populations. Slavery was almost entirely a matter for their colonies. Most captive Africans were transported to Latin America, especially Brazil. Less thn 5 percent were tranported to what is now the United States. Except, for Brazil, Cuba, and Lain America abolioh slvery after the Wars of indepenence (early-19th century). Expperiuences differed counry from country. Caribbean sugar platatios were essentially death camps, but eventually black became the majority popuklation. French Revolulioaries ablolished slkaverty, leading to an uprising on Haiti. Napoleion reintroduced it. Because of uprisings on Jamaica and the difficulty of supressing them, Britain decided to abllissh slaverry (1835). On the mainland outside of Brazil there were only a few African enclaves (Belize, Niarcagua, Colombnia, and Ecuador). Here resistance to disease was a major factor. Economically they did not fare well. African-Americans were by far the most affluent black population.
Some woke professors tell thir students that American power was buiolt on slavery and that it slavery that made slavery a great power. This of course is absurd. If it was true, Brazil tioday woukd be the greatest power on earth. lavery in fact retarded national mdevelpment because the greatest resource aby country has is its people. And slavery limited tghe abikity of the enslaved peoiple to develop their talents and contribute to society.
