World War I: Austria-Hungary--Photographic Images

Figure 1.--Here we have photograph of Austrian school children in a rail car at the beggining of World War I (1914). We aree not sure just what is going on. We do have caption, but as it is in Swedish we can not read it. Click on the image to see the caption if you speak Swedish. We would very much like to know just what it says. .

We have found some Austrian World War I-era photographs that we do not understand. Perhaps readers will be able to offer some insights to help us interpret the images.

Photograph One: Rail Car School

Here we have photograph of Austrian school children in a rail car at the beggining of World War I in 1914 (figure 1). We aree not sure just what is going on. We do have caption, but as it is in Swedish we can not read it. "En jarnvalos wagen soin shola inrattad pa en plats Osterricke da skolhuset an vandes HF son lasarett." As it is hand written, e cn not even transcribe it acurately, The Google translatir returns, "A jarnvalos wagon soin school focused on a place Austria when the school house an water's HF son lasarett." All we can get from this is that the ril car is being used as a school. We suspect that th children have been evacuated from an area near the front line nd th rail car is bing used as their school. This seems a little strange in tht rolling stock was vitally needed for the war effort. .
