Historical Girls' Clothing: Swedish Garments-- Skirted Garments

Swedish girls dresses
Figure 1.--Here we have a CDV portrait of an unidentified younger girl, probably about 6 years old wering a sailor-styled dress in the late-19th century. Her outfit includes what looks like a mock-V collar with collar ruff. The girl wears a decorated hat with black long-stockings and high-top shoes. The photographer is John O. Olsson in Karlshamn. This is a coastal town in far southern Sweden.

We do not yet have a substantial Swedish archive. We are just beginning our assessment of skirted garments. What little we have shows Swedish girls wearing dresses in the 19th and much of the 20th century, especially the first half. We do not now much about other skirted outfits like blouses and skirts. We do not have enough images yet to assess styles or other trends. As far as we know, skirted garment trends in Sweden were simikar to te rest of Scadanavia as well as Germany. We note a a CDV portrait of a yonger girl wering a sailor-styled dress in the late-19th century (figure 1) Her outfit includes a decorated hat with black long-stockings and high-top shoes. .
