David's Cousins: Southend-on-Sea Promenade (1900s)


Figure 1.--This is another of my grandfather's snapshots from Southend-on-Sea. As far as I can tell, it was from the same holiday. It shows the boys with their mother on the promenade. She is pushing a pram, probably containg a younger sibling. Here they are more formally dressed, with knickers, dark stockings, and caps.

This is another of my grandfather's snapshots from Southend-on-Sea. As far as I can tell, it was from the same holiday. It shows the boys with their mother on the promenade. She is pushing a pram, probably containing a younger sibling. Here they are more formally dressed. Notice that they wear flat caps rather than peaked school caps. They have Eton collars, but we can tell much about the jackets. They have knickers with matching hosiery. We do not know if they were wearing knee socks or long stockings. I've no idea what the hosiery is, but it was long enough that the top is under the knickers!
