Unidentified Japanese Boarding School (1930s)

Before the War, most Japanese children did not progress beyond primary school. There were no secondary schools in rural areas. Thus capable children desiring to continue their education had to stay with city relatives or attend boarding schools. We believe their public boarding schools. We are not sure, however, how a child earned a place in these schools are to what extent the parents were responsible for the costs. We think most of the schools were for boys, but there were probably a few for girls as well. It is posssible that there were hostels for the children attemding city day schools. we are not yet sure about this. Hopefully we will learn more from the written text on the back of the photographs. A French reader tells us, "I have been learning Japanese since 2005 in Paris at a French-Japanese school. Now I can translate some short or medium texts. Nevertheless there are a lot of problems with fast running hand writings. This is the case for the back of the last photography about a secondary school. Moreover, kana and kanji are almost fuzzy and faint, especially on the right part. Rapidly, it might be noticed words such as “futon”(mattress for tatamis)布団 or “irui”(clothes)衣類. Generally it would be a description of the place and its various contents.
