Independent Inter-War Poland: Education -- Activities

Figure 1.--Poland is perhaps the most Chritian country in Europe. The Church was at the heart of resistance to both the NAZI and Soviet occupation and eventually the implosion of the Soviet Union itself. This photogrph shows Polish school children having a class Christmas Party with thgeir wondrful Christams tree, we believe in the 1930s. Notice how the children are all dressed up in Polish folk outfits with added Christmas touches. This rather suggests that many families had these outfits for their children.

Poland througout its history since the 10th century has been an intensely Chtistian country. And this was not just in medieval times. After the Polish Partiions, it was the Church that helped keep Polilish national spirit alive. After World War I and the re creation of an independent Poland, the Church played an imprtant role in the new Polish school system. This photogrph shows Polish school children having a class Christmas Party with thgeir wondrful Christams tree, we believe in the 1930s. Notice how the children are all dressed up in Polish folk outfits with added Christmas touches. This rather suggests that many families had these outfits for their children. This all changes with the NAZI and Soviet invasions (1939). The Church was at the heart of resistance to both the NAZI and Soviet occupation and eventually the implosion of the Soviet Union itself. Stalin once asked how many divisions the Pope had. The Polish people would show Stalin's successors that they underestimates the Pope and Church. The Church was crippled in many European countries, but not Poland.
