Country School Rompers--Israel

Figure 1.-- Rompers were not a common school garment, but we notice nursery school children wearing them. We do not know how common rompers were, but we see them being worn by both boys and girls. We note a snapshot taken at what looks like a kibbutz nursery school. We see two types of rompers, suspender rompers and shortall-style rompers. They may have been made on the kibbutz because they are all done in the same material abd color. It looks like a heavy material for winter wear. It looks like it was taken about 1950, but is undated. This of course is just one school. We do not know to what extent rompers were worn at other kibbutzes or city nursery schools.

Rompers were not a common school garment except for girls' gym suits. We do see them being worn by younger chilren, mostly nursery school children, in a few countries. This was most common in France where they were worn by nursery school boys. But there were a few other countries. One of those was Israel.
