As in many European countries, there is no one single Spanish Scout asociation. The Catalans have, for example, a separate association. There is also a separate association for Valencia. Hopefully Spanish readers will provide us some details about Spanish Scouting.

Spain has a history of regionalism. We know of at least two regional Scout associations. As in many European countries, there is no one single Spanish Scout asociation. The Catalans have, for example, a separate association. There is also a separate association for Valencia. There may be more, such as in the Basque country.

Catalonia

As best HBU can figure out from the Catalan test here, two Catalan Scout groups, the Germanor Escolta de Catalunya and the Scouts de Catalunya, in 2001 decided to combine to form one single Catalan Scout association --Acció Escolta de Catalunya

Germanor Escolta de Catalunya i Scouts de Catalunya es fusionen amb l'objectiu de crear una nova entitat per a l'escoltisme català Acció Escolta de Catalunya. El 21 d'octubre de 2001 a Canyelles, el Garraf, l'Assemblea Nacional de Scouts de Catalunya i l'Assemblea General de Germanor Escolta de Catalunya vam aprovar el document ProjGECte eSColta, a partir del qual decidíem crear una nova associació juvenil que assumirà l'objectiu de continuar educant i formant infants i joves des de l'escoltisme.

Les assemblees de les dues associacions vam decidir posar fi als nostres projectes associatius per separat i emprenem un camí junts amb l'objectiu de poder oferir moltes més eines i recursos als caps escoltes i educadors i als més de 2.000 infants, adolescents i joves que sumarem entre totes dues entitats. El 21 d'octubre posàvem fi a més de vuit mesos de treball braç a braç i de debat intern sobre el model d'associació que volíem, tant des dels equips associatius com des dels propis agrupaments.

Catalanitat, pluralisme i fidelitat al mètode escolta: El sistema educatiu de l'associació continuarà inspirat en el mètode educatiu ideat per Robert Baden-Powell i fonamentat en el compromís a través de la llei i la promesa escoltes com a eines pedagògiques i de treball adaptades a la realitat catalana actual. L'associació es basarà en els fonaments de la catalanitat, el pluralisme i la fidelitat al mètode escolta.

"Acció Escolta de Catalunya continuarà les seves gestions per ser membre de la Federació Catalana d'Escoltisme i Guiatge (FCEG) mitjançant la qual podrà relacionar-se amb altres associacions del moviment escolta d'arreu del món."

Un llarg camí per recórrer: Acció Escolta de Catalunya, nom de la nova entitat, naixerà el proper 20 de gener de 2002 a l'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelonès), moment en què es reunirà per primer cop l'Assemblea Nacional constituent i aprovarà els nous estatuts. Les dues associacions d'origen treballaran a partir d'ara per tal de confeccionar uns equips de treball que donin forma a l'entitat, i que permetin desenvolupar el document marc de la fusió, duent a terme el model de participació interna i externa proposat, desenvolupant el programa educatiu, concretant fins al detall la formació que l'associació vol per als seus educadors i caps escoltes, i complint els compromisos que l'associació ha assumit en el seu document marc amb la societat com a agent transformador de la mateixa societat.

Els nostres vincles: Amb la voluntat d'unir els esforços de l'escoltisme català, Acció Escolta de Catalunya continuarà les seves gestions per ser membre de la Federació Catalana d'Escoltisme i Guiatge (FCEG) mitjançant la qual podrà relacionar-se amb altres associacions del moviment escolta d'arreu del món. També estarà integrada dins la Federació d'Associacions de Scouts d'Espanya (Federació ASDE) a partir de la qual s'agermanarà amb les associacions escoltes de la resta de l'Estat i amb la qual mantindrà un lligam de col·laboració, intercanvi i participació. Acció Escolta de Catalunya aspira a ser membre del Consell Nacional de la Joventut de Catalunya a partir de la propera Assemblea, a través de la qual es vol implicar amb el moviment associatiu juvenil assumint responsabilitats en la construcció de la societat civil.

Valencia

The Federació d'Escoltisme Valencia includes three diocean Scout associations in Vaklencia (Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia). The Federation is the educational movement serving children and youth in Valencia based on the principles of Scouting and the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Federation has a membership of 8,500 children, young people and adults grouped more in levels appropriate for their ages. The boys and girls of 8 to 21 years are developed and progressed discovering their natural and social surroundings, and learn, through the commitment and service, to exert personal and collective responsibilities. The Federación d'Escoltisme Valencia lends its support to the action of more than 100 local groups scouts that integrate the diocesanas associations, with the objective to become present between a greater number of Valencian young people. [La Federació d'Escoltisme Valencia agrupa a las tres asociaciones diocesanas de escultismo de la Comunidad Valenciana. Es un movimiento educativo al servicio de los niños y jóvenes valencianos, basado en los principios del escultismo y las enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica. Forman parte de la Federación más de 8.500 miembros, niños, jóvenes y adultos agrupados en unidades que se adaptan a la edad: Los chicos y chicas de 8 a 21 años se desarrollan y progresan descubriendo su entorno natural y social, y aprenden, a través del compromiso y el servicio, a ejercer responsabilidades personales y colectivas. Scouting Philosophy

Scouting collaborates with the educative action of the family and the school responding to the specific necessities of the boys and the girls. The Drug addiction develops the self-esteem, the necessity to explore and to discover and desire to learn. Scputing is an alive movement where the young people are the protagonists. They work by means of projects chosen in agreement with its centers of interest, that adapt to the necessities of the young people and the society. Scouting achieves its purpose by means of activities of free time that contribute to physical, intellectual, social and spiritual the development of the young people. [El Escultismo colabora con la acción educativa de la familia y la escuela respondiendo a las necesidades específicas de los chicos y las chicas. El Escultismo desarrolla la autoestima, la necesidad de explorar y de descubrir y el deseo de aprender. El Escultismo es un movimiento vivo donde los jóvenes son los protagonistas. There are Scouts in more than 150 countries, and its membership surpasses 16 million worldwide. The universal Scout brotherhood allows the interchange between young people of different cultures, like expression of the opening, solidarity and the service to the others. It is an option to help the young people to grow and to obtain a greater understanding between the generations. For this mission the adult entertainers form and acquire a experience that will contribute to its own development. Scouting is, neither can be, exponent of a party nor of a political organization, which does not prevent to Scouts to participate actively in the life of its community, of the society where he or she lives and of their country. In accord with the teachings of Baden Powell, its founder, Scouting is based on:
- a commitment, towards an ideal of life expressed by the promise and the Law Scout.
- the education by the action, harnessing the protagonism of the person and the grupo(al to propose, to choose, to plan, to make and to review its projects) and the practice of the democratic game with the distribution of responsibilities and decision making.
- the work in small groups, where each participant finds his place, makes a function makes specific and learns to take responsibility of the global task.
- a personal progress, as far as technical attitudes and forms to be related, abilities and knowledge. [De acuerdo con las enseñanzas de Baden Powell, su fundador, se basa en:

Gender

Most Spanish Scout groups are coeduactional. We are not sure just when this trend began.

Levels

HBU is not sure at this time how consistent the various Spanish Scout associations are about the levels of Scouting. One group reports the following levels:

Colonia de Castores

This appears to be comparable to Beavers and is for children 6-7 years of age.

Manada Seeonee

This appears to be comparable to Cubs and is for children 8-10 years of age.

Tropa Scout Mascarón

This appears to be comparable to Scouts and is for children 11-14 years of age.

Unidad Esculta Xanon

This appears to be comparable to Explorers and is for youth 15-17 years of age.

Clan Rover Deneb

This is for young adults 18-21 years of age.

Scouters (Kraal)

This is for adult Scouters.

Associations

We have only limited information on Spanish Scout associations at this time. We think that there are several associations, but cannnot yet confirm this. One association appears to be the coed association, the Guias y Scouts de Europe, meaning the Guides and Scouts of Europe. Hopefully Spanish readers will tell us more about the Spanish associations.

Uniform

I believe that there were substantial differences among the different Scout associations as to the uniforms.
