Vests were not normally with Fauntleroy suits. We see very few in the photographic record. At the time vests were commonly worn with regular suits, but rarely by themselves instead of jackets. This of course was because the whole purpose of the small cut-away jacket was to exposev the finery of the fancy Fauntleroy blouses to maximum affect. A vest would cover up the blouse and defeat the whole Fauntleroy look. The only vest we have found in our etensive archive is two brothers wearing vests instead of jackets. With all the huge collars and floppy bows, the vests are not readily apparent, but on closer examinatioin the fact that sleeves are lacking cleraly indicate that the boy is wearing a vest rather than a the small cut-away jacket. Prevalence can not be determined when e only have a few images, but for garments for which we have acquired a substantial archive like Fautlleroy suits we think we can assume an accurate assesment of prevalence.
