Boy Choir Costumes: Art Work--German


Figure 1.--This image of a "Christmas Choir" appeared on a German Christmas card in the late 19th century.

We have noted German Christmas cards featuring boy choristers in the late 19th century. We do not know when this convention began, but probably not before the mid-19th century. They are usually depicted in eclesiastical robes rather than the sailor suits that many choirs adopted in the 20th century. Hopefully our German readers will provide some insights.
