Viener Sangerkanaben--Vienna Boys' Choir Uniform Garments

Figure 1.-- The cap is the traditional style worn presumably by the Austrian Navy in the years that Austro-Hungariam Empire still had a navy or or up through World War I.

HBC at this time only has information on the garments that made up the Vienna Choir Boys sailor suit. These consisted primarily of the sailor cap, middy blouse, and long trousers. The cap is the traditional style worn presumably by the Austrian Navy in the years that Austro-Hungarian Empire still had a navy or or up through World War I. The German word for cap is "Mütze". An E-Bay seller describes the cap here, Eines " Mütze eines WIENER SÄNGERKNABEN (vienna choir boy) Beschriftung: "Wiener Sängerknaben" + Österreichisches Staatswappen. Größe: 56 Maße: ca. 24 cm Durchmesser Alter: ca. 50 Jahre alt Hersteller: LITTO KAPPE, Wien VIII LANGEGASSE 13 Am inneren Rand befindet sich die aufgenähte Nummer 53, vermutlich zum Wiederfinden !" There was also a heavy reefer jacket for Winter wear. We have little information on these garments, except what can be observed in the available photographs. We do not know any noticeable changes over time at least since the post-World War I edra.

Cap

The cap is the traditional style worn presumably by the Austrian Navy. Although largely land locked, Austria-Hungary had Adriatic ports in the Balkans and northern Italy. Austro-Hungarian Empire still had a navy or up through World War I. The German word for cap is "Mütze". An E-Bay seller describes the cap here (figure 1), Eines " Mütze eines WIENER SÄNGERKNABEN (vienna choir boy) Beschriftung: "Wiener Sängerknaben" + Ö sterreichisches Staatswappen. Größe: 56 Maße: ca. 24 cm Durchmesser Alter: ca. 50 Jahre alt Hersteller: LITTO KAPPE, Wien VIII LANGEGASSE 13 Am inneren Rand befindet sich die aufgenähte Nummer 53, vermutlich zum Wiederfinden !" The cap was blue with a wide cap tally reading, "WIENER SÄNGERKNABEN". There was a streamer at the back. There was a crest at the front, I think with the Austrian national seal.

Middy Blouse

The middy blouse had traditional styling. There was a white blouse with navy blue collars and the traditional three stripe detailing. This was the summer uniform. There was also a blue middy b;ouse for winter wear.

Long Trousers

Reefer Jacket

There was also a heavy reefer jacket for Winter wear.
