A HBC reader had forwarded us an image of the Alsterspatzen Choir of Hamburg, Germany. The Alsterspatzen have aame only Hamburgers understand. The little river and the lakes in Hamburg are named "Alster", "Spatzen" are very noisy little birds, the sparrows. We note it is a mixed boys and girls choir. The Alsterspatzen are the children's choir of the Hamburg State's Opera. It was founded in 1975. They take part in opera productions as well as doing concert of different kinds of music (church, international folk, modern, ...). There were tours to the United States, Japan, Colombia (South America), Spain, Wales, and Sweden. They make occasional TV appearances, especially duriung the holidays. They give popular music concerts, e.g. Sarah Brightman, Nana Mouskouri, Barry Manilow, and a lot of singers well-known in Germany. The choir members wear both a blue and white uniform. The white uniform has sailor styling. The blue uniform appears to be a jumper style fr the girls and a blazer or sweater (it is difficult to tell) style for the boys. The Choir seems to be more popular with the boys than the girls.
