Drama is one of the fine arts. The history of drama is well known back to Greece. Drama was apart of earlier cultures, but here less is known. Most children including both boys and girls enjoy participating in dramatics. Drama was also important in Rome. Some of the most important early Western literature is drama. Drama emerged in the Renaissance before other literary forms. Shakespeare's drama played an important role in the emergebnce of the modern English language. Both the costuming and the acting appeal to many children. Of course mos children are involved in school or other amateur dramatics. Most schools put on plays and skits. At some schools, the annual play is a major event. Often for the younger children all the class is involved in one way or another. By the secondary level it is the youths that have a real interest in drama. There are many other opportunities for amateur dramatics, including community, camp, church and other possibilities. A much smaller number of children get involved in professional dramatics.

Professional Theatricals

A much smaller number of children get involved in professional dramatics. Some interesting images of period clothing for boys are available in movies, plays, and television shows. Producers vary greatly in the accuracy with which fashions are portrayed, some, however, take great pains for accuracy and detail. Some of the child actors have been known to object to some of the styles they had to wear. The boy playing Harlan in Life with Father apparently was most displeased with ther kilts he had to wear, especially because of none of his brothers had to wear them. Both the productions and the children involved as actors in the productions offer valuable information pn children's fashions.
