Argentine First Communion Suits: Chronology--The 1970s

First Communions were not as common as they were earlier, but most children still did them. And many of thechildren still wore formal outfits. This was especially the case for the girls who continued to wear junior wedding dresses. Quite a number of boys also wore formal First Communion suits, although we do see some boys with more informal white shirts and slacks or short pants. We even still see white gloves nd the fancy sleeve bows. We note both white and colored suits, both light and dark colored suits. There were both short and long pants suits. The stylish cut of short pants became shorter in the 1970s and we see some boys with short-cut short pants suits. Argentine children's c;othes tended to dollow European trends. This was a popular style in Europe at the time. The length of the shorts was also affected to a degree by the age of the boy. The length of the shorts, however varied a good deal. White knee socks were very common, even with dark suits. But we also see dark knee socks. Some boys wore white shoes with white suits. Black shoes were mmuch more common. We evcen see white shoes with dark suits like the boy here, but this was not very commonless common. By the 1980s, formal suits had become increasingly less common for the boys. Some boys no longer wore suits, but rather white shirts and dress pants. Girls continued to wear the junior wedding dresses. We begin to see this in the late-70s. And unlike the boys' shorts, the dresses were still modest long lengths.

These outfits were similar to the First Communion suits American boys wore, but the ones with short cut short pants were more ofa European style. White knee socks were very common, even with dark suits. But we also see dark knee socks. Some boys wore white shoes with white suits. Black shoes were mmuch more common. We evcen see white shoes with dark suits like the boy here, but this was not very commonl. We see most black shoes even with the white knee socks.

Girls continued to wear the junior wedding dresses. We begin to see this in the late-70s. And unlike the boys' shorts, the dresses were still modest long lengths.
