Spanish First Communion Country Trends: Chronology--The 2000s
Figure 1.-- Here we see two Spanish boys dressed up for their for first communion in 2007. One boy wears the more traditional short pants suit with blue knee socks while the other wears a dark long-trousers suit. Notice the long necktie--it looks as though the boy was wearing an adult necktie, since it is much too long for him. Perhaps he borrowed it from his father. That rather suggests he did not wear the suit very often. He has a cricifix. The sleeve bows worn in tghe 20th century seem to have largely disappeared.

We notice Spanish boys wearing a variety of First Communion outfits in the 200s. The outfits include sailor suits, cassocks, suits, and blazers. Suits were most common, but we see blazers with different colored pants. Most boys wear long pants, but some boys wear short pants outfits as well. The short pants are seen as more traditional. They are worn with both ankle socks and knee socks. Short pants suits were no longer so common so boys might wear a blazer with short pants bough separately. Knee socks were also not as common as in the 20th century. The knee socks in particular are not very common for boys and are rarely seen except for formal events like First Communion or weddings. The sailor suits all seem to be long pants suits. We note both the traditionl enlisted uniforms as well as the admiral suits that we have also noted in France. We are not sure about the relative importance of these outfits. We do not see sleve bowsthat were common in the 20th century, but many boys has crucifixes. Girls still wear white dresses, but they do not seems as fancy as earlier.
