Figure 1.-- This snapshot is unidentified and undated. The boy is clearly wearing his First Communion outfit. It looks to us like the photograph was taken in the 1930s, although the 40s is also a poosibility. The boy's outfit is a liitle unusual as I haven't notice boys wearing white knickers very commonly. White short and long pants were common, but not knickers. The sports collar is also a little unusual for a formal outfit. Note the homes in the background. These would have been typical middle-class suburban homes in the 1930s.

Dark outfits such as navy blue were popular in the 190s and 20s, but white began to be worn in the 30s, especially the late 30s.
