Boys' Wedding Outfits: Countries--Colombia

Figure 1.--Here we have a picture taken in Barranquilla during 1930. The weddings took place in the church of San Roque on December 25th at 7 AM, according with the local custom in those times. The name of bridegroom was Luis José Angarita Lázaro; he came from Ocaña. The bride's name was Edith Galofre Gutiérrez; she was born in Barranquilla from a wealthy family. The names of flower girl was Leticia. The boy is Armando. I'm not sure id he was a ring bearer. The children look to be dressed as cupids. We are not sure how common this was.

Colombia is a Latin American country and former Spanish colony. The wedding traditions are thus primarily Catholic and Spanish. We do no know if any Native American traditions survive in Colombian wessings. As far as we know wedding traditions are quite similar throughout Latin America because of the predominately Catholic culture. We have few details at this time. Hopefully our Colombian readers will provide some information on local wedding traditions. We do have an impage of a Colombian wedding from the 1930s. This would have been a wedding for a wealthy family, perhaps a society wedding. We do not know how common it was to use the children as Cupids.
