Advertisements Showing Boys' Clothe: New Home Sewing Machine (United States, 1890s?)

Figure 1.--Here is an old business card from the New Home Sewing Machine Company in Chicago illustrated with a boy. It is undated, but we would guess dates to the 1890s, in part because of the clothes tht the boy is wearing.

Here is an old business card from the New Home Sewing Machine Company in Chicago illustrated with a boy. It is undated, but we would guess dates to the 1890s, in part because of the clothes tht the boy is shown as wearing. The boy wears a red peaked cap, a long sleeve white shirt with a blue collar bow, redish pants probably knickers, blue socks, and dark strap shoes. He is pictured with long curly hair. It is a amusing card with the boy holding two puppies. The card reads, "Why buy a back number. Have you seen the late improvement on the New Home? No other machine like it. Offices, agents or dealers in all parts of the world. No trouble to get needs or repairs. The New Home Sewing Machine Co., 335 Wabash Ave., Chicago, Ill." we are not sure just how a card like this would have been distributed.
