This portrait entited "Family Moment" is undated. It is difficult to date, but was probabaly painted around 1950. The image does no look like a pre-World War II work, especially the girl's clothes look modern. I think the boy would have been more likely to wear closed-toe sandals in the 1950s than 60s. But these are all guesses on our part. Note that the boy appears to be wearing a blue school smock with white collar. He also wears closed-toe sandals without socks. The boy and his sister are reading while their grand mother in traditional garb knits with a cat purring on her lap. The grandmother's traditional garb suggests to HBC that the portrait was painted in atural area or small village. It is a pity that the work is not dated as it would help us better understand mock treds. Our understanding was that school smocks were more common in the towns and cities, but this image suggestsd that they were being wrn in small villages as well. Of course this is only a suggestion as you can not make expansive inferences from one single image. We have been unable to fnd any biographical information about this artist.
