Marion Burnell (United States, 1923)

Figure 1.-- Here we have a wonderful portrait of Marion Burnell in his brand new Boy Scout uniform. Note that he does not have a kerchief. It is a detaled photograph of the Scout uniform. Marion looks very proud of himself in his uniform. And we know he is 12 years old, although he will be 13 in a few days. Click on the image to see Marion a few years earlier. Or perhaps it is Marion's younger brother.

Here we have a wonderful portrait of Marion Burnell in his brand new Boy Scout uniform. Note that he does not have a kerchief. It is a detaled photograph of the Scout uniform. He even has the official BSA hatchet. I thought at first that he didn't have his Scout knife yet because it isn't on his belt clip. But note that he has stuck it in the bnox. Marion looks very proud of himself in his uniform. And we know he is 12 years old, although he will be 13 in a few days. We know this because his mom explained it to Grandmother Mills. Marion lived in Sound Bend, Washington. We know the photograph was taken in 1923 because the letter his mother mailed with the photograph is dated. You can tell that Marion has just become a Scout. Not only is his uniform brand new, but he has no badges yet. A second photograph was included in the envelope which we assume is Marion a few years earlier.
