This American image is a matted "studio" photograph from Montpelier, Vermont. The photograph is undated, but appears to be from the early 1900s, perhaps about 1905.
Written beneath the photo are the words "Uncle Robert Harvey and Maurice". Embossed upon the matting beneath the photograph are the words "Ayers Art Studio, Montpelier, VT." Maurice wears a dark sailor tunic with his Dutch boy or Buster Brown bangs. I'm not sure how old Maurice was, pergaps 5-6 years old.
Written beneath the photo are the words "Uncle Robert Harvey and Maurice". We are guessing that the boy's name is Maurice Harvey. But of course Uncle Henry could be his mother's sister in case we do not have Maurice's last name.
This American image is a matted "studio" photograph from Montpelier, Vermont. These mated oval pportraits were very popular in the United States in the early 20th century before World War I (1914-18).

Manu boys wore sailor tunics with bangs at the turn of the century. The styles vared widely. Mairice wears a dark sailor suit with non-traditional styling and a total absence of detailing, both on his sailor collar and dickey. It appears to be a dark, probably blue, winter wool tunic. Note the purely ornamental dark belt.
Maurice wears Dutch boy or Buster Brown bangs. It is a classic cut, straight accross the fore head and long down to mid-ear level. Note the center part at the crown of the head.
Maurice looks about the age at which he would have begun school. I'm not sure how common it was in the 1900s for boys to wear these tunics suits to school. Perhaps boys might have worn them in their first year or so.
