Duncan Halkett (Scotland, 1870s)

Figure 1.--This 19th century portrait shows Duncan Halkett in a Highland Kilt. The CDV is British and given his name and outfit, we believe it was taken in Scotland. Duncan wears a classic Highland kilt outfit, including a Glengarry cap, plaid, and a sporan. Curiously he does not wear Argyl knee socks which were very common with such outfits The CDV is undated, but looks to have been taken in the 1870s. Duncan looks to be about 13-14 years old. Outfits like this would have been worn by boys from affluent families.
