Jesse and Mary Mary Louise Hook (United States, 1938)

Figure 1.--Jesse and Mary Mary Louise Hook participated in the Congressional children broadcast. This was a NBC radio sponsored event in which the children of Congressmen ans Senators apparenty got radio time (April 16, 1938). . This may have been a one time event. We have few details at this time. We are not entirely sure what they did with their time. We see some children playing musical instruments. Another child sang while a lady played the piano. Most of the children are just standing or sitting and talking into the michraphone. Here we have Jessie wearing a white short pants suit, reflecting the fact that it was spring time in Washington. Mary Louise wears a formal long dress.

Mary Louise weas a formal long dress. They look to be aboaut 8-10 years old. Given that their parents are in Congress, we would assume that they came from a really affluent family. Notice the white ankle socks with bands. White socks became standard casual/athletic wear in America, but this was not yet the case in the 1930s. We do not notice them very commonly in the 1930s. We note another NBC program with children from the embassies, including the German Embassy.
