*** Wegner children

Figure 1.-- This large format cabinet card (9x6 in) shows the Wegner children, four siblings (3 girls and 1 boy) done up in dressy summer outits. They look to be anout 5-13 years old. The portrait is not dated, but the hair bows suggest the 1910s. The children are identified as "Harold, Leona, Helen, and Mildred Wenger". The girls all wear large white hairbbows. The older girls seem to have double hair bows. Hair bows were very common. We even see bow larger than the ones the girls here are wearing. The double hair bows like we see here, however, were not very common.

Wegner Children (United States, 1910s)

This large format cabinet card (9x6 in) shows the Wegner children, four siblings (3 girls and 1 boy) done up in dressy summer outits. They look to be anout 5-13 years old. The portrait is not dated, but the hair bows suggest the 1910s. The 1910s were the peak of hair bows. It is had to tell about the younger girl because the hair bows and dresses are all white. It looks like the girls are all wearing identical white dresses. The boy has Dutch boy bangs. He has a large Peter Pan collar and relatively small floppy bow. Floppy bows were going out of style, but we still see some in the 1910s. And we no longer see the huge ones common in the 1890s. Harold's light-colored (but not white) suit has some Norfolk styling aand long, white short pants. We see the transituoin fron knee panbts to short pants in porocess. The two youngest children wear white long stockings. It is likely that their older sisters do so as well. Long sdtockings were very common in the 190s, but black stockings were vmucj more common, especilly for boys. The boy has black ankle strap shoes. The youngr girl probably wears white strap shoes, but this is difficult to tell with the white stockings. There is no studio information as was common with the new style cabinet card appearing after the turn of the 20th century.
