*** Andress and Fillio Wimer

blouse outfits
Figure 1.--This appears to be a CDV portrait. We would be unsure how to date it. By the 1890s, the larger cabinet cards domiated American photography, but on the back it reads 'In Fall of 92". And identifies the boys as 'Andress and Fillio Wimer'. The boys wear rather plain button-on blouse and knee pants outfits, perhaps home sewn. Thery look to be about 5-8 years old. Even though 1892 was square in the middle if the Fauntleroy era, we di not see a hint of Fauntleroy styling. The boys have floppy bows, but they are very small in contrast to the huge bows many boys were wearing at the time.

The knee pants were well over thev knees, butb in the 90s we begin to see knee pants cut at knee length. Of course 1892 was just at the beginning of the decade. Unfortunarely we know nothing about the family. Only that the studio was E.R. Burnham in Barry, Illinois. The fact that small towns like Barry had a photographic studio shiow how extebnsively thev photigraphic industry had spread througout the country. Barry is located in farm country, part of Pike County on the Mississippi River. Mos of the stufio's customers would have been farmers. Across the River was northern Missiuri, the northern-most slave territory before the Civil War. To the south is St. Louis. The rail road rached Barry just aftr the Civil War (1869).
