Figure 1.--This cabinet card portrait shows Fred Wulf. We have no information about his family at this time. Mother has outfitted Frank in a blouse and kilt-skirt combination. It is a little difficult to tell, but it looks like he is wearing a black velver blouse with front buttons and a dark, muted plaid kilt skirt.

Fred Wulf (United States, 1880s)

This cabinet card portrait shows Fred Wulf. We have no information about his family at this time. Mother has outfitted Frank in a blouse and kilt-skirt combination. It is a little difficult to tell, but it looks like he is wearing a black velver blouse with front buttons and a dark, muted plaid kilt skirt. The kilt has large pleats. We are not sure anout the color. These kilt suits with both blouses and jackets were very popuilar in the late 19th century. He has a very elavorate pin-on lace collar. Fred looks to be about 4 years old. His outfit is finished with long stockings and high-top button shoes. The studio was in Buffalo, New York. The portrait is undated, but we would guess was taken in the 1880s.
