Figure 1.--This unidentified boy was from Stalybridge, a suburb of Manchester. He looks to be about 5-6 years old. The CDV portait is undated, but we would guess the 1870s. His outfit could easily be classified as dress ir a kilt/skirt suit. The boy's outfit seems to have quite a mix of themes and features. He has an Eton collar and snall bow which he wears with a sailor-styled top. We are not sure if this is a dress bodice or jscket. And it is not clear if the skirt is part of a dress are a separate skirt. In America it might be called a skirt, but in England it may have been called a skirt pleating is very limited and there are no other kilt features.

We see some outfits thart seem to be a blur of different skirted garments. We notice this in the 19th century before garements were all ready made outfits. When garments were one of a kind creations sewn in millenaries rather than readymade, there was bound to be a wide variety of creations. The creators may have mixed various styles.
