Here I am in the magnificent Dorset countryside. I'm on the left, aged 11 or 12 now. This was the last year I wore shorts, even on holiday. I'm not sure just why, but I had begun secondary school where everyone wore long trousers. I guess I thought it was just for little boys. Also notice the sandals which we often wore on holiday. Notice no sign of any ears... that would have been my main concern at the time.. the only thing that would have embarrassed me would have been my ears showing. Grandad was always telling us we looked like girls.... we just thought he was a bit old fashioned to be saying that.
