Jonathan: Pop Music (1970)

Figure 1.--We of course were affected by the pop music culture of the day. Perhaps not as much as other famolies, but we were interested. Ah look, I did own some long trousers! Blue chords by the look of it! As you see, we're presenting a forerunner of Pop Idol here. The microphones are candelsticks with a ball of plastecine in the top, wrapped in tin foil with some string attached!

We of course were affected by the pop music culture of the day. Perhaps not as much as other famolies, but we were interested. Ah look, I did own some long trousers! Blue chords by the look of it! My brother Andrew appears to have just worn his school uniform during the Christmas holidays. That was not all that uncommon for younger boys in the 1960s. I think even younger boys began to be more style conscious in the 1970s. He's 2 years older than me! I'm the youngest of the four. Goodness knows why he's wearing those clothers, bit like me with the Magic Robot in the Christmas scene ... a mystery. I just think it was normal to wear them. Looking at these old family snapshots, some I remember quite clearly. I'm a little hazzy on others. I recon this snapshot and the Christmas scene were probably all taken on Christmas day, and we'd had our shorts on for church because we didn't have any smart long trousers. In the Christmas Magic Robot snapshot, I still hadn't got changed, and in this pic I had, but he hadn't. That's my guess! As you see, we're presenting a forerunner of Pop Idol here. The microphones are candelsticks with a ball of plastecine in the top, wrapped in tin foil with some string attached!
