World War II Displaced German Children: Unknown Photographs

Figure 1.--This photograph is unidentified. We believe it was taken in Germany, probably in the late 1930s before the War broke out. We do not know who the children are. We wonder if theu may be gypsey children.

Here we have images of German children or children in German during the World War II era that we can not identify. In some instances some limited information is available about the photograph. In other instances all we have is the photograph itself. Hopefully our German readers will have some insights about the photograph.

Photograph 1

This photograph is unidentified. We believe it was taken in Germany. We believe it is German because it is being sold by a German dealer. This means it was probably taken in Germany or bu a German soldier in another country. The cobblestones and rather clean streets suggest to us thsat is is probably German. We believe the photograph was probably taken in the late 1930s before the War broke out. We do not know who the children are. We wonder if they may be gypsey children. We are not sure just what German gypsey children look like, but the clothing seems the way that gypsey children may have dressed. The children seem to be healthy and well fed this suggess to us that the photograph was taken in the 1930s or very early 40s. The NAZIs arrested the Gypseys during the War and confined them in concentration camps during the War. Many were eventually gassed in Auschwitz. A reader writes, "I don't think this is a German photograph. I believe feel they are from Albania or Kossovo or perhaps Russian." HBC might agree if we were just talking about the children. Look at the people in the bakground. We can only see their legs, but they look reasonably fashionable. Also look at the cobblestone street and note how clean it is. This looks very German to us.
