Figure 1.-- Here we see an unidentified mother and son seat in front of their house in San Pietro a Patierno (Naples) during the 1960s. Often poor families lived in one-room houses and during the summertime, especially on hot days, many activities took place in the street. Poverty was, however, taking on a different meaning by the 1960s. Both mother and son are better dressed than would hve been the case before the War.
