We see another unidentifid rural family, this one in the 1940s. They look in much better ecomomic condition than the family photographed at the turrn-of the 20th century. This probably reflects the substantial development of the urban economy. Much of the benefits of economic developmnt occurred in the cities, but some of th improvemnt also raised the standard of living in the contryside as well. The family here was photographed during World War II in 1943. Here we see a rural Cuban family in 1943. There are the parents and five very young children. The look well dressed and fed. They look reasonably prosperous, not on the same level as Americn farmers, but photographs like this could easily have been taken in Puerto Rico at the time. And they look more prosperous than rural resident through much of the Caribbean at the time.
