Suits were very common in New Zealand during the 19th and first half of the 20th century. This is basically the same pattern as in Europe and America. Suits were much more common at the time than is the case today. New Zealand is a very small country with a limited photographic record largely located at home. Thus we have only limited information on the country' fashion trends. We do not see skeleton suits becuse these suits were worn before European settlement began (early-19th century). We note a range of suits for younger boys. We note collar-buttoning jackets in the 1870s. This is, however, are only 19th century image. The 20th century images we have found look essentially the sane as Brotish styles. The only basic difference we see is a lot more New Zealand boys going barefoot.
