This portrait was taken Joinville, Santa Catarina (1926). It shows Affonso Leuschner, his wife Marta and their children Lidia, Gustavo, Luis, and Gertrud. The family was of German origin. Other than where they lived, we know very little about the family. They seem to be amodeartely prosperous middle-class family. Note the formal clothing of the older children and the more casual clothing of the younger ones. Bare feet seem to be the norm for the younger children at that time. We are not sure if this reflected the cost of footwear or some other adult connvention. Or even if the younger children peferred to go barefoot
