Swedish Summer Camps: Uniforms

Figure 1.--This photo was taken in 1928 in a Swedish summer camp, probably Barnens Ö (Children's Island), near Stockholm.

We note a summer camp being operated on a Baltic Island near Stockholm. We note Barnens Ö (Children's Island). It was/is apparently a whole isle out in the archipelago intended for young children, who needed to get away from the big city and live for a wide in a senic area and swim in crystal clear lakes. Here we see a boy in 1925 being taken to one of the archipelago steamers and then out to the Childrens´ Summer Holiday Camp (figure 1). We have been able to find very few details about the camp such as who prganized it and the range of activities pursued there. Given it was an island, swimming and boating must have been important. By the way - the Stockholm Archipelago is a haven and contains more than 25.000 isles - one of the biggest and most beautiful in the world and still there are old, renovated steamers taking Stockholmers and tourists from all over the world out to this paradise. This is unique that close to a big city.
