Russian in the 19th and early-20th century was primarily an agricultural country. Working Russian children were thus primarily involved in agriculture. They worked as serfs until Tsar Alexander II empancipation proclamation (1861). Most continued working on agricultural estates as free peasants. There were many jobs for children such as working as shepherds.
