Summer Camp in America: Individual Camps--YMCA Camp Belknap

Figure 1.--Here we see a scene at Camp Belknap. The boys are posing with their camp shirts, probably in 1919. Click on the image for more of the group.

We note some images of YMCA Camp Belknap from the late 1910s and early 20s. The photograph was probably taken in 1919. Camp Belknap was located on Lake Winnipesaukee. The YMCA along with the Boy Scouts ran the two largestvsummer camp programs in the United States. The boys wear sleevless "T"-shirts with a large B. Most of the boys wear short pants. I'm not sure that was part of a uniform as we see a few boys wearing knickers. We note another photograph from the camp showing the 1950 uniform. The boys still wear a shirt with a bog B, but a "T" shirt with sleeves. They also have baseball caps and short pants with side stripes.
