As with most Dags we have no associated information with this half-plate Daguerreotype portrait. The portrait is in an embossed leather case trimmed in gilt. Mother has a molded hair style, usually ending in a bun at the back. In this case, however, thereseemsto be low hir t the back. Mother's molded hair style and the poor composition, suggesting an inexperienced photographer, was probably taken in the 1840s. But the early-1850s is certainly possible. We always hope in archiving these images that readers may have insights on the dating. The portrait shows a young mother and her two small children. The boy and girl looks to be about 2-4 years old. Their clothing is difficult to make out in detail as they are all kind of jumbled up together. The girl wears a dress, but we can not make out much detail. We think that her big brother also wears a dress. We can make out a scalloped white collar and what looks like a colorful a print dress.
