Here we have an Ambrotype portrait of an unidentified family. Ambros appeared in the mid-1850s. And were very common (1855-62). Here the father is missing. This suggests to us that the portrait was taken during the Civil War (1861-63) and father is away at the front. He is probably alive as mother is not wearing mourning black. CDVs appeard in the 1860s, but we still see Ambros in the early-60s. There are four younger children poviding insights on period fashion. They look to be about 1-8 years old. The older boy wears a collar-buttoning long-pants suit with a white collar. His litle brother wears a collarless blouse with half sleeves and button-on pants. Men and boys at the time wore long-sleeve shirts. The little girl wears a dress with a low neckline.
