Here we have a wonderful Victorian family portraiut. It looks to a very prospertous family, note mustachioled father's top hat. Mother is almost lost in the portait with all the very young children. There are five children, we think two girls and three boys. They look to be anout 2-12 years old. The younger boys wear Fauntleroy collar-buttoning velvet suits. These jackets do not show off the fancy Fauntleroy blouses like the classic cut-away jacket do. From what we can see at the collar and cuffs they were fancy blouses. The boys also have rather modest floppy bows for the time at least. Noticed the hats the two younger boys are holding. They are a good example of the many vzaried headwear worn with Fauntlroy suits. The older boy looks to be about 10 years old wears a double-breasted velvet sack suit with piping.
The girl wears a fancy blouse with bolero cut-away jacket and skirt. We can't see mother's dress very clearly, but it looks to have the expansive shoulder sleeves characteistic of the mid-1890s. The embossed cabinet card mount is charcteristic of the mid- and late-90s, but we also see them in the early-1900s. All things considered, we suspect the portrait was taken in the late 1890s.
