Here we see a mother and her two sons who according to the 1930 U.S. Census would have been aged 2 and 4 years respectively (April 1930). The photo was taken by a studio (Martin's Photo Shop of Terre Haute) on November 23, 1926, so it is possible the boys could have have birtdays by November when the portrait was taken. Mother is Mrs. Mayme Charles Newlin, wife of Charles C. Newlin of the Citizens' Trust Company in Terre Haute, Indiana. The boys were John (1922- ) and Charles (1924- ). We may be slightly off because the Census gave ages and not birthdates. Both boys were born in Indiana. Both parents were born in Illinois. The two boys wear dress-up clothes for their portrait. The younger boy wears a checked shirt with wide sports collar to which his short trousers are buttoned. The shorts have an ornamental belt, but it is the buttons that hold up the trousers. The older boy wears a light-colored btton-on sailor suit rhat looks almost like a one-poece suit. I'm not sure about the color. It may have been grey. The blouse has both a dickey and neck scarf. The short trousers of which button onto the sailor shirtwaist with large black buttons. Both boys wear beige (or light tan) long stockings with supporters.
