American Families: The Harshenberger Mennonite Farm Family (1937)

American families 1937
Figure 1.-- The Harshenbergers were a Mennonite family living in Sheridan Co., Montana. Like most Mennotyies, they were a farm family. Montana is one of the larger and least populated states in America. Interestingly, the Canadian provinces to the north are more prosprous than the Amrican states to the south like Montana. This is the opposite of the normal pattern. The photo was taken in front of their home which father probably built fairly recently. The snap shot was taken in in November 1937. We can see John Harshenberger, his wife, and 13 of their 15 mostly youngr children. It looks like dad will have farm hands for several years to come. Source: Library of Congress LC-USF34-030923-D
